End of EGG programme

 End of EGG programme

My first month in New Zealand, everything was new—the weather, English, people and the house. I joined many groups and made many friends in Wintec and Waikato Uni. I was nervous but excited because I like to experience the new and I was free from my busy Korean life , parents and study.
When I found it hard to make friends and adapt to other cultures, I felt depressed and helplessness. I knew I needed wisdom from God. So every morning I had quiet time and God gave me the power and wisdom I needed for each day. Morning prayer meetings with HCF also gave me the strength I needed for the day.
I have often wondered what can I do here on this mission trip? During the prayer meetings I organised, we talked about our lives, God and shared prayer requests. We prayed together and prayed for the world. I am so thankful that I have been able to spend time with HCF members.

These past five months, I have learnt so many things: How to be close to new people from other cultures and adjust to new environments. Most of all, I learnt most about me. I think I am doing well! I experienced many things, and am growing globally. Most of all I feel HCFers really love each other and God really loves HCF, NZ.

I would like to say thank you to HCF. HCF encouraged when I felt depressed or lonely, HCF friends always welcomed me. I want to especially thank you for trying to understand me and bearing with my English.
I will never forget this lovley country, NewZealand.

H.C.F Daily Prayer Meeting

H.C.F(Hamilton Christian Fellowship) has started weekly morning prayer meeting throughout the month of May.

The first time I introduced the idea of daily prayer meetings organised by  KIVF, most of the students were surprised. (In Korea, we gather every morning at 7:50am on campus to pray) and they said that will be hard for HCF to do the same.

But in May when I suggested the idea again and they said 'yes'! We gathered every wednesday at 9am at first. Finally, we tried to do daily prayer meeting for a week.

We sang worship songs, did devotions and shared prayer items after that.We prayed for non-Christians on Monday. We have many non-christian friends in HCF and in university who had prayer needs. I felt very thankful that God cares for them. I think relationships and praying for friends and family are very important for HCF as a Christian Fellowship.

On Tuesday, we shared our own personal worries and prayed for each other.

On Wednesday, we prayed for world. It was a meaningful time. We shared the prayer items we had for our countries. We prayed for New Zealand, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey. All countries have problems: some with their governments and leaders who need to keep peace and have wisdom.

On Thursday, we talked about 'What should we do to become more like Jesus?' and "How to grow our relationship with God".

On Friday, we prayed for Hamilton Christian Fellowship, Tertiary Students Christian Fellowship and Korean Inter Varsity Fellowship.

To be honest, I was worried about prayer meetings. I thought it would be boring if I lead it Korea style. Because prayer styles here is little bit different from KIVF. But God gave me wisdom on how to lead even if I felt I didn't prepare well enough. I feel that God loves it when the HCF group prays together. Before organising these prayer meetings, I did not know what to do on my mission trip to NZ. But God gave courage and confidence. And I feel I became closer to HCF students when we prayed together! Praise God!

Day 7. Nelson

Day 7. Nelson

Today, is my last day in the South Island. I can't believe I travelled by myself in other country!
I am so proud of myself now.
The weather was so nice. Again I was worried about weather because it was strong windy and rainy.
Praise God! I am thankful for his mercies!
After raining, the scenery was amazing. I felt so fresh.
I went to Catheral church and walked around the city. There were a lot of art galleries. Everything was pretty-cafes, shops, houses...-
In the afternoon, I climbed to The Center of NZ. It was quite hilly and hard...
But on the top of hill, I could see Nelson city at a lookout. Such a beautiful city it was!
I will never forget these amazing cities in the South Island ever!

Day6. Christchurch to Greymouth/ Tranz Alpine Train

Day6. Tranz Alpine (Christchurch - Greymouth)

Someone said "You have to take 'Tranz Alpine Train'  before you die." This trip is one of the popular travel journeys in the world. The train crosses the South lsland from Christchurch to Greymouth.
But it was also a rainy day. I couldn't see the beautiful scenery in the sun. I felt so sad as I expected so much.
After 4 hour, I arrived in Greymouth and left soon to Nelson. It took about 6 hours!
I was in the train and bus whole day.
Even I couldn't see many things, instead it was good time to rest and sleep..haha :D

Day5. Christchurch

Day 5. Christchurch
I arrived in Christchurch at night.
It was already dark and there were only a few people in town.
Many places were being fixed because of the earthquake which happened in 2011. I felt sad. I heard that it was once, one of the most beautiful cities in New Zealand.
I couldn't see anything there... because it was Sunday night.
I went to a restaurant and ordered Fish & Chips.
There were a lot of food items on the menu but I knew only that item. I decided to just rest at night.
For me, Christchurch is sad and regrettable experience of the city.

Day4. Lake Tekapo

Day4. Lake Tekapo

I heard that if I go to Tekapo, I can see a lot of stars!
That's why I've been really looking forward to going to Lake Tekapo.
But the weather was cloudy and I couldn't see any stars.
I was so disappointed.
But the next morning, I saw wonderful scenery before the sunrise.
It was so silent. I could only hear the sound of gentle waves.
It was peaceful and relaxing time.
After them, I went to Church of  The Shepherd. It is so tiny and cute. I could see a panoramic view from inside the church.
I walked around the village. It was so quiet and pretty.
I thought if I can come to NewZealand again, I will live here.
I think I fell in love with Tekapo.
I Love Tekapo! I Will Miss You! :-(

Day3. Aoraki/ Mount Cook

3rd Day. Aoraki/ Mount Cook

Day2. Queenstown/ Milford Sound/ Te Anau/ Fiord National park

2nd day. Milford Sound

Today I went to Milford Sound on a bus tour. During the trip, I visited Te Anau, a National Park and Mirror Lake. The scenery was AWESOME and weather was also nice. I will never forget this place! And I saw a Kea bird, it was my first time. I heard the bus driver said that it was a bird that was going into extinction. So I thought that was a Kiwi even though it looked different from the toy.

After five hours, I arrived at Milford Sound and took a guided cruise. But in the cruise, I was tired and sleepy. So I couldn't enjoy that much :-(
The 2nd day was also a nice day and I took a lot of pictures haha!

South Island trip Day 1. Queenstown

1st day. Queenstown 11/6/2014

Today is the first day of South Island trip. Last night, I was worried about the weather. I heard that in NZ the weather in winter is rainy almost everyday, especially in the South Island. But in the morning, the weather became better. Good! In the afternoon, I arrived in Queenstown by airplane. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The mountains are so high and beautiful with snow. I stayed in Nomads backpackers. It was quite big and there were many people. After unpacking, I walked around city. I was little bit nervous because I was alone. But I've heard New Zealand is safe for woman travelers. I went to Fergburger which is one of the most famous restaurants in Queenstown. I've heard from many people, that the food is so yummy and it is! When I walked around alone again, I met a Fillipino girl that had taken the same bus as me. She was so friendly and guided me around city. A highlight of the trip was when I took a Gondola. The mountain was so windy and cold but scenery was amazing! Today, I am thankful for good weather and meeting a new friend. Thanks be to God!

NZ Travels 2 Rotorua

I went to Rotorua on the 4th of May with HCF friends. Rotorua is a popular tourist destination in the North Island, New Zealand. I really wanted to go there to ride the 'Luge' because I saw it on the Korean TV show called "Where are you going, daddy?" On the show, there are 5 TV stars and their children and they travel to different countries. Last year, they visited Rotorua and rode the Luge. It looked like so much fun.

The Luge is unique wheeled gravity ride that provides riders full control over their descent. We bought tickets and took a Gondola to the starting point. I saw such beautiful scenery from the Gondola. I could see the lake and many houses. Such a pretty city it was!

There were so many people expecially children. So we had to wait a long time in the line. There are three levels -scenic intermediate,advanced- The first course is for learnner. That was quite boring. I like the advance course. It is very twisty and hilly. I sometimes slide down but it was so exciting!
I wanted to take a selfie-video while driving but I couldn't do that because I was going too fast and I could not grasp handle at the same time.

After riding, we went to the mud pool. Rotorua is famous for that. I could smell sulphur everywhere like eggs. I was surprised when I saw the mud pools. It was living! I could see bubbles and smoke. It was very interesting and warm. I've learnt about volcanos only at school. I think NewZealand is good country for studying geography. And then, we went to the lake and saw black swans. There were many ducks (or baby swans. I'm not sure...).

We had dinner at Korea restaurant. I ordered spicy miso soup. I was shocked that was $12. That's so expensive! I pay only $5 in korea. But...taste was nice and I was missing korean food. I became happy after dinner.

I will never forget Luge, mud pool and smell!

Interviewing Ji about Easter Camp

Li Lian: Describe your experience at Easter Camp?
Ji: I was impressed that many Japanese students were at the camp because I have never met Japanese students before. I was wondering about Japanese Christians but I was surprised to find that they were all not Christians yet. I thought that only Christians would attend Easter Camp; also I was surprised that they like being with Christians and were curious about God. So I asked one of the PNOCF student leaders "How did you invite non-Christians to the camp? Her answer was they prayed hard and maintained good friendships with people.

Li Lian: Are there differences between KIVF camps and OCF camps?
Ji: Quite similar except for prayer time. In KIVF, in the morning, we worship, have workshops and then group bible studies. In the afternoon, we have free time for 5 hours. We are encouraged to pray and seek God during that time. We don't really play games. In the evening, we worship, listen to the speaker, then we pray for half an hour to one hour and then group sharing before bed. KIVF camps tend to be more serious.

Li Lian: What was the highlight of your time in Foxton and at camp?
Ji: It was my first opportunity to spend a lot of time with HCFers and get to know them better. I had an opportunity to share about the EGG programme at camp. Before the presentation, I was worried that people would not understand my English or would get bored. After my presentation, I was glad that people came up to me and said they were encouraged by me. Praise God. I had a good time after camp at a restaurant with everyone. I was astonished at the size of Fiona's house and her two dogs.

I hope after a few years HCF will also be able to organise a camp like this, where many friends can join in.

NZ travels 1. Wellington

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand or the windy city. I was told that the Wellington weather is mainly rainy, windy and sometimes there are earthquakes. Wellington is located in the bottom of North Island and it is an 8 hour drive from Hamilton. But I didn't feel long and bored because I have already experienced two trips to other cities located in the area. I looked out of window and took pictures. The scenery was amazing. Wild, green field, sheep, cows and blue sky, I like going on long trips now. We passed the Desert road. That is a place with no trees, just scrubland and cold winds. There in this desolate place I saw such a big rainbow. It is the best biggest I had seen ever.

Finally, after 8 hours, I arrived Wellington! There was strong rain. I prayed that the weather the next day would get better. I and my friend Abigail had stayed for 4 days in Rongapai (which means Good News in Maori). It is a student flat for Wellington TSCF. We had good time with students who live there. They were very kind and friendly. Too bad I didn't get a chance to take a photo with them.

Second day (May 9th)
Fortunately, there was only a bit of rain. I saw that most people didn't carry umbrellas except Abigail and I. Because New Zealand is much cleaner than Korea or Singapore, they aren't worried about hair loss from chemical rain! We looked like real tourist so soon we closed our umbrellas too.

We went to the Te  Papa Museum. Many people recommended that place. It was such a big and wonderful place. I could understand why they are proud of it. There are so many sections. We were engrossed in taking pictures. The best thing was geography part (earthquake, volcano...). I could experience an earthquake in a simulator. Actually, I could have experienced a real one ! Because Wellington is one of the most earthquake-proned cities in New Zealand.

After that we went shopping in Cuba Street. There were quite unique shops there. I love it there! But we didn't have enough time to look around more because most shops close early in NZ. :-(

 Third day (May 10th)
In the morning, we walked around the Botanic garden. I've expected beautiful flowers but there were not many flowers because winter is coming. We took a ride on the cable car. I also expected more but it was so short a route! I wanted to ride again but it was not cheap. So I was just satisfied with a short trip : )

We visited many famous places. We went to the Victoria university, law school, the Beehive, Railway station and the Cathedral church. All the buildings were so awesome. I was really enjoyed taking pictures. Finally, we went to Mt.Victoria. We could see the whole view of Wellington. I can’t express how beautiful it was. I love the houses located on the hills, mountains and the seaside. I realized I can take nice pictures of structures but cannot take pictures of nature and capture it fully.  (True of the picture of the rainbow as well) That's why God’s work is wonderful and creative. Amazing!

At night. I met Andrew's friends at the pub. In NZ, pubs are places to socialise and watch sport. I couldn't believe that I was drinking beer with the staff workers! It was a pretty good experience. Because of the culture, I would never have been able to imagine drinking with KIVF!!

 Fourth day (May 11th)
On the last day, we had such wonderful weather! We drove to the seaside and went to the Chocolate fish cafe beside the beach. We drank coffee outside in the sun and shared some bible verses and talked together. I felt so happy and peaceful with the bible, sunshine, coffee and lovely friends.
And at night, we were back in the quiet city, Hamilton. I will never forget this beautiful city and friends I met!

Thanks Andrew for the long hours of driving and thanks Abigail for your photos and spending time with me!

Jesus The Easter Sunday Resurrection Video

Jesus said "Preach the goodnews." and  "I am with you."

The last scene make me cry
.

He is alive now and here, with us.

Napkin Evangelism (냅킨 전도법 from IVP)

What do you think about our society?
What do you hear on the news?
-trouble, deceptions, wars and famine...-
How do you feel about this situations?
It is so sad. Isn't it? Many people hope to put the world right. Actually the world that existed in the past was good.
In the bible, that says "In the beginnig,
God created the earth beautiful and perfect." The relationship between God and human was close and intimate. People also had good relationships with each other. They loved and depended on each other. They took care of nature as well.

Why did the world become so sad?
In the bible, it says it is because of self-contentedness. God is the Lord. But human wanted to be Lord. They used others, killed and harass each other. And people destroyed nature to  benefit themselves. So, today, there are many enviroment disasters.

God felt so sad. He came into the world as a human being his name is Jesus.
Jesus died upon the cross and resurrected.
As a result, the relationship between God and man became good again.

The close relationship had been recovered through Jesus. But, the world was believe in Jesus, need to discover God's intentions for world and walk closely with God daily. And God also wants us to do into the society with goodnews.

Many people, who want change the society, want to go (1) to (4) directly. But it is impossible. If they don't deal with their problems first, they wouldn't be able to restore the world. They can go that only through Jesus

   What do you think?
   (2) Do you think our society has no problem?
   (1) Do you think our society has serious problems
         and you do as well?
   (3) Do you believe Jesus for yourself and heaven?
(But don't you go into our society?)
   (4) Do you live as sent person by God?

     Which picture are you in?

Introducing EGG Programme @Waikato Missions Expo 2014

Hi I’m Jiyeon. I’m from South Korea.
Last month, I arrived in New Zealand for a short term mission trip and I help out in TSCF (H.C.F).
First, I would like to introduce you to a mission program called ‘EGG’ (Experience and grow globally). In Korea, TSCF is called KIVF(Korea Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship). The EGG program aims to challenge Korean students to be global Christians, and to be culturally sensitive. Korea is mono-cultural country. So, There is not many opportunity to experience cross cultures.

Before I came to NZ, I read the first five books of the bible. I was moved by the story of how God called Moses. He was scared and his excuse was “Who am I?” but God answered “I will be with you.” Then Moses asked what if people ask for your name? God answered ”I AM WHO I AM”. I didn’t know then that this verse would become very important to me. This verse helps me to be braver than I feel.

Next, I would like to talk how I decided to go on this mission trip.
Last year, I became president of KIVF in my uni. First I didn’t have self-confidence. Can I lead the group and how can I help others? But during the time I was president, I experienced God using me. God used me to lead daily prayer meeting. Every morning at 8am, we gathered to pray for campus. So every night before the meeting, I would prepare worship songs and prayer items for the meeting. God gave me wisdom, strength . So I can prepare and lead the group.
When I applied for the mission program, I wanted to learn more about missions, and experience God at work everywhere in the world. I realized that my English ability and finances were not enough. So, by faith I took one semester off school and began preparing for this missions program. I studied English and worked at part-time job. Surprisingly, I passed the interview for the missions programme and I was selected to go to Hamilton, New Zealand. If I had chosen other country, I wouldn’t get a chance to go because the students for the EGG program to India and UK had already been selected before two semester ago. It was then that I felt sure that God called me to NZ. Many people in my church and KIVF are supporting me financially and in prayer. I am still very surprised that I am New Zealand now.

These days, I think God is making me into a thankful person and it is a joy to serve God. Actually, I had a lot of confidence in myself when I joined the EGG programme. Because I thought I was a president and I was trained enough in Korea. But, in strange environment, I felt I am not enough training and I have to depend on God.
Now, I feel thankful to God because I found I can help make poster, welcome new students, play the guitar and keyboard, and even catch flies.
And also I felt I couldn’t do much but I could pray in Korean. When I was frustrated, I reminded moses story. I realized that I have to shift my focus from myself to God who is strong and not focus my own weaknesses. And I also feel thankful to God sending to me here so that I can experience various cultures such as Kiwi, Malaysian, Chinese, Indonesian, Singerporean and Fijian and I can make many new friends as well. Specially, in New Zealand, I can experience God who is creator when I see beautiful scenery. All this time I feel that He is training me to serve him better when I go home.

Enjoy your Easter egg and as you eat it remember to Experience and Grow Globally.

Thank you.

University of Waikato O'week 2014

3rd-5th March 2014 O'week @Waikato uni.

Last week was O week at Waikato Uni. We prepared flyers and programs for O week.
We held the "Naked Noodle" challenge. Eating only noodles, no seasoning, no water.
First day, I couldn't speak to students. Because I was shy and I didn't know how to explain the game rules to them. So, I just timed and recorded the contestants and cheered them on. That night, I practiced how to explain our group and the game rules. The next day, I could do it and my voice became louder. We held a successful competition and introduced H.C.F(Hamilton Christian Fellowship) to many students. We had fun!
Wednesday was Clubs Day. HCF put up an interactive noticeboard entitled "What do you want to do in 2014?"  On Monday and Tuesday, many male kiwis were interested in the game but, on Wednesday, many of female Asian students came. It was perfect way to promote and introduce our group through both events.
In my school, many club students focus on recruiting freshman members. But, Waikato uni focuses on doing something fun with various students. (This is just my opinion^^;). First, I thought 'Why didn't they promote themselves more and give more details?' and 'How we can recruit many more new member?' But, now, I think having a fun time with various people is also our role. I was good!
It was special exprience to meet many student. I missed my KIVF friends who they are recuiting new member in Korea.

The Nacked Noodle Challange!

(TSCF Launch Camp)

결국 첫날은 타이머로 기록재고 옆에서 "Come on", "Are you ready?", "Keep going x2"등의

"Would you like to take a Nacked Noodle Challange?"
"Eat this a cake of the noodle as faster as if you can!"
"The four pasters people will win free movie tickets."
한국이었으면 지나가는 사람들 끌고 왔을텐데 거기 까진 못했다;;;

Clubs Day.
우리 H.C.F (Hamilton Christian Fellowshp)는 <What do you want to do in 2014?>라는
 갔던데 또가서 붙여진거 확인하고 돌아오기를 몇번 했지만..^^;
